| Forecast: the third robbery of the people |
| Director of the Institute of Society Transformation, leader of the Ukrainian National Conservative party Oleh Sokin declares, that it is necessary to expect financial and economic crisis in May - June 2003. He told the journalists about it at meeting in Rivne. In his opinion, devaluation of the UAH, present slowing down of economic growth rates, rise in prices of energy, transport and municipal services would be the preconditions for such situation. O.Soskin named the forthcoming economic crisis “the third robbery of Ukrainian people”. The first robbery, as he said, was in 1992-1993 years, when people lost their savings on deposit accounts in “Oschadbank” (saving bank), and second - in 1997-1998 years - when the USD/UAH exchange rate increased in a moment. O.Soskin has also listed other factors destabilizing the economy: increase of the internal debt (since commercial banks buy government securities), and also squandering of the NBU reserves. O.Soskin was rather critical speaking about the present authorities, particularly the President of Ukraine. He also informed, that the application to the Constitutional court of Ukraine about opportunity of the third term of Presidency for Leonid Kuchma has already been prepared. Therefore, in his opinion, the oppositions should be resolute, and not expect the Presidential elections - 2004, as by that time it would have hardly enough financial and organizational resources to win the elections. |
